Formed in 1983 by four prize-winning graduates of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris, the Parisii Quartet won early acclaim with its triumphs at three major international competitions. Much in demand in Paris, the Parisii performed the entire Haydn cycle at the Opéra Bastille, performed the Beethoven cycle at the Salle Gaveau, and has appeared frequently at the Musée d'Orsay. Appearing in major concert halls and festivals across Europe, the Quartet has since toured regularly across the United States.

Noted for its performances and award winning recordings of distinctive and unusual repertoire, the ensemble has also recorded the complete works for string quartet by Anton Webern and the sixteen string quartets of Darius Milhaud, which won the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros, and made the first-ever recording of Le livre pour quatuor by Pierre Boulez.

On Sunday, November 11th, the Quartet appeared as the guest ensemble in the second concert of the season offered by Chamber Music in Oklahoma and featured an all French program of works by Ernest Chausson, Maurice Ravel and César Franck.

It’s the Parisii Quartet in concert this week on Performance Oklahoma, Wednesday evening June 19th at 8 pm on Classical KCSC/KBCW!

Brightmusic's Schubert and Friends

Oklahoma City’s Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble continued its Tenth Anniversary Season of chamber music concerts with a four-concert Spring Festival - "Schubert & Friends" presented on May 18^th, 21^st, 22^nd and 23^rd at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral and All Souls Episcopal Church. A variety of chamber works, a piano sonata and a selection of lieder by Schubert were offered as well as the Mozart Clarinet Quintet, the Crusell Clarinet Quartet. The Weber Grand Duo Concertante and the world premier of a work for two clarinets and string quartet "Quasi un Fantasia” by Christopher Theofanidis, co-commissioned by the Society and Chamber Music Northwest. Special guests clarinetist David Shifrin and tenor Andrew Ranson joined Brightmusic musicians for the series.

Performance Oklahoma

Performance Oklahoma is KCSC’s weekly radio broadcast showcasing concerts and recitals presented across the state of Oklahoma. Airing each Wednesday from 8:00-10:00pm CST, the program features the Oklahoma City Philharmonic's Classics Series concerts and performances from Chamber Music in Oklahoma, Brightmusic Society of Oklahoma, OK Mozart International Festival, Armstrong Auditorium, Rose State Live!, OCU's DistinguishedArtist Series, OCCC's Cultural Arts Series, OU's Norton Visiting Artist Series, UCO's Faculty Artist Concert Series, the Canterbury Choral Society and others. The broadcasts are edited, produced and hosted by KCSC’s Director of Production & Syndication, Kimberly Powell.

Kimberly has met and interviewed a number of the world's leading musical artists and composers for the program including Steven Isserlis, Stephen Hough, Marc-André Hamelin, André Watts, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Nathan and Julie Gunn, James Ehnes, Jon Kimura Parker, The King's Singers, Barry Douglas, Midori, Peter Wiley, Rachel Barton Pine, Libby Larsen, Phillip Ying, Vladimir Feltsman, Michael Daugherty, Colin Currie, David Kim, Carter Brey, Kazuhide Isomura, Eric Ruske, The Eroica Trio, Paul Neubauer and colleagues from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, members of Chanticleer and a number of exciting young international artists including Stefan Jackiw, Conrad Tao, Sarah Coburn, Shai Wosner, Julie Albers, Jennifer Frautschi, Orion Weiss, Ryu Goto, Alexander Schimpf, Susanna Phillips, Sasha Cooke, Kelly Markgraf, Andrew von Oeyen, Anna Polonsky, Alexander Sitkovetsky and the co-gold medalists of the 2009 Van Cliburn International Competition Haochen Zhang and Nobuyuki Tsujii. In August of 2009, Kimberly and Performance Oklahoma were profiled in the Sunday edition of the Daily Oklahoman by Fine Arts Editor, Rick Rogers and in April of 2010 a feature article by Terry Clark appeared in Oklahoma's Journal Record. Her program showcasing the American Organ Institute's Gala Weekend Celebration in September 2009 was nominated for a Governor's Award. The 2010 and 2011 OK Mozart International Festival chamber music broadcast series were presented by KXMS Fine Arts Radio International in Joplin, Missouri and by KWTU Classical in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2011 and again in 2012, Performance Oklahoma was awarded a grant from the Kirkpatrick Foundation and has secured sponsorship from locally owned Homeland Grocery Stores, Hudiburg Subaru of Oklahoma and Armstrong Auditorium.

The program also featured commentary from both artists about the program and pieces, live performance vs studio recording and playing together.

Composer Michael Daugherty joined the Norman Philharmonic for their first anniversary concert presented on Sunday, January 20th. The program "Meet the Composer" offered three works by Daugherty and music by Aaron Copland, Ludwig van Beethoven and Leopold Mozart and featured timpanist Lance Drege, flutist Valerie Watts and students from the Norman Public Schools and Sooner String Project with Richard Zielinski conducting.

This week Performance Oklahoma presents the Oklahoma City Philharmonic's 5th Classics concert of the season. Entitled Motion and Emotion, the program featured guest virtuoso percussionist Colin Currie and works by Aaron Copland, Jennifer Higdon and Pytor Tchaikovsky and opened with a brief remembrance of pianist Van Cliburn who passed away earlier in the day. And to end: an excerpt from Trail of Tears by Michael Daugherty featuring principal flutist Valerie Watts and the Norman Philharmonic.

Performance Oklahoma presents the Tokyo String Quartet in a program including excerpts from the ensemble's performance in October presented by Chamber Music Tulsa and commentary from founding member Kazuhide Isomura, who talked about the Quartet's beginnings, history and philosophy. Featured in the second hour, the Zodiac Trio in concert from the Musical Arts Series at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Performance Oklahoma presents the 4th Classics concert offered by the OKC Philharmonic this season. Entitled "Pristine Visions," the program featured guest violinist Ryu Goto (stepping in for the injured Stefan Jackiw) and two works: Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op 88 by Antonin Dvorak and the Violin Concerto in D Major, Op 61 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Performance Oklahoma was honored to present the 1st edition of OK Youth in Classical! on Wednesday, January 30th! The new breakout series profiled three distinguished Oklahoma high school music ensembles: the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, the Norman North Chorale and the Edmond North Orchestra! Listeners learned about each award-winning ensemble, met the dedicated directors, enjoyed delightful commentary from six young musicians, and heard a sampling of recent performances from each ensemble.
