The San Francisco Opera broadcast this Saturday (Oct. 13) at noon is John Adams’ “Nixon in China,” the rich recreation of President Nixon’s trip to Beijing, a masterpiece that has established itself as a great American opera. Baritone Brian Mulligan stars in the title role. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts.

Saturday’s noon opera is Mozart’s great comedy, “The Marriage of Figaro,” starring Italian bass Luca Pisaroni as the impulsive Figaro and soprano Danielle de Niese as Susanna. (both pictured). KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts the San Francisco Opera broadcast October 6th.

This week’s San Francisco Opera broadcast is George Frideric Handel’s Baroque-era masterpiece, “Xerxes,” (Serse), based loosely upon the life of Xerxes I of Persia. Celebrated soprano Renee Fleming (pictured) dazzles in this week’s San Francisco Opera broadcast of Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia,” at noon Saturday, September 22. Renee performs as the ruthless femme fatale who becomes vulnerable when comes face-to-face with her long-lost son, played by tenor Michael Fabiano. Hosted by KCSC’s Lane Whitesell.

The Saturday, September 15 noon San Francisco Opera broadcast is Charles Francois Gounod’s “Faust,” the French romantic masterpiece that tells Goethe’s heartbreaking story of a forlorn philosopher who regains his youth by making a deal with the Devil. Tenor Stefano Secco and soprano Patricia Racette (pictured) perform the roles of Marguerite and Faust. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts.
