George Frideric Handel’s first opera for a London audience was “Rinaldo,” was performed in 1711. Tune in at noon Saturday, June 23 to hear the Lyric Opera broadcast of “Rinaldo” starring countertenor David Daniels as Rinaldo (pictured) and German soprano Julia Kleiter as Almirena. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago honors a timeless classic, Jerome Kern’s spectacular production, “Showboat,” this Saturday at noon. With book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, “Showboat” follows a group of theater folk from the 1890’s Mississippi River through Chicago’s Roaring Twenties. Nathan Gunn stars as Ravenal and Ashley Brown (both pictured) stars as Magnolia in this 3 ½ hour production. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts.

KCSC will air Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production of Richard Strauss’s (pictured) “Ariadne auf Naxos” Saturday, June 9 at noon. Starring American soprano Amber Wagner and tenor Brandon Jovanovich, this opera offers sparkling, luscious music that wraps itself around a witty comedy. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts.

Saturday’s noon opera broadcast from the Lyric Theatre of Chicago is Modest Mussorgsky’s masterpiece, “Boris Godunov.” The magnificent Ferruccio Furlanetto (pictured) performs as Boris, the tormented ruler who’s haunted by the specter of the child he murdered to become Czar and threatened by a pretender to this throne.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago presents Gaetano Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” Saturday, May 19 at noon. The tragic three-act opera broadcast stars Susanna Phillips (pictured) as the emotionally fragile Lucia, caught in a feud between her family and the Ravenwoods during the 17th century.
