This Saturday’s Metropolitan Opera broadcast presents charismatic soprano Anna Netrebko starring in Gaetano Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena,” beginning at 11 a.m. Join KCSC opera host Lane Whitesell for this 3 ½ hour portrayal of the ill-fated queen driven insane by her unfaithful king. Ms. Netrebko sings one of opera’s greatest mad scenes in this premiere production.

The revival of the Metropolitan Opera broadcast of Puccini’s “Tosca,” will be aired and hosted by KCSC’s Lane Whitesell at noon, Saturday, January 28. Soprano Patricia Racette performs the title role along with Robert Dean Smith as her heroic lover.

Lovers of Baroque opera have it all in this Saturday’s Metropolitan Opera broadcast of “The Enchanted Island,” featuring arias and ensembles by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau and others. The all-star cast includes David Daniels, Joyce DiDonato, Placido Domingo, and Luca Pisaroni. KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts the show at noon, Jan. 21.

This Saturday KCSC’s Lane Whitesell hosts a Metropolitan Opera archival broadcast of Vincenzo Bellini’s “Norma,” starring mezzo-soprano Marilyn Home and soprano Dame Joan Sutherland (pictured). The opera was broadcast April 4, 1970.

Join KCSC opera host Lane Whitesell for the Metropolitan Opera broadcast of Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” at noon on Saturday, January 7. Mezzo-soprano Alice Coote (Hansel) and coloratura soprano Aleksandra Kurzak (Gretel) dazzle in the Met’s wickedly funny production, performed in English.
