KCSC/KBCW is a non-commercial educational radio station licensed to the University of Central Oklahoma. We rely heavily on the financial support of listeners. In 1999, listeners provided over 50% of our operating budget. Other sources of financial support include the University of Central Oklahoma, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and business underwriters.

KCSC/KBCW members help insure the continuance of locally programmed classical music in central Oklahoma. As one of only 28 all classical public stations nationwide, KCSC/KBCW provides a truly unique alternative to commercial market offerings and public station news/talk formats.

Listener contributions help cover the cost of programming fees, equipment replacement and repair, and maintenance of our CD library which contains over 10,000 CDs.

Programming fees alone account for $45,000 annually. Annual affiliation with Public Radio International costs $24,000. Fee-based programs include HEARTS OF SPACE, THE RECORD SHELF, WITH HEART AND VOICE, ST. PAUL SUNDAY, and various orchestra programs such as THE CHICAGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. Feature programs such as STARDATE  also carry annual subscription fees.

Equipment replacement and repair is a continuous process. CD players and digital audio tape recorders are in virtually constant use 18 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Periodic breakdowns are inevitable. Sometimes equipment cannot be repaired and must be replaced. The cost of one new CD player is over $1,500. Digital audio recorders cost approximately $1,850 and digital cart recorder/playback systems cost $5,000.

In order to bring you the finest and broadest selection of classical music, new recordings must be purchased and older recordings occasionally replaced. With over 10,000 CDs in our library, this is an ongoing task.

Your KCSC/KBCW membership is an integral and essential component of our financial viability. Without it, quite simply, the music would stop playing. Your membership demonstrates a commitment to supporting classical music and the local arts community. Ultimately, this commitment helps to maintain and enhance our quality of life in central Oklahoma.
