Kimberly Powell

Production & Syndication Director

Kimberly Powell joined the staff at KCSC as an announcer in September of 2007 and assumed the role of Director of Production and Syndication in March of 2008. She hosts a daily on-air shift and has distinguished herself with her concise yet informative commentary of the music she presents. Her unique style of delivery, resonant voice and polish has won her praise and many new listening fans.

Upon assuming the role of Director of Production she immediately reworked the station’s community revue Community Curtain Call into a fully produced weekly program with commentary and interviews with musical artists. Renamed Performance Oklahoma the program counts among its clients, the OKC Philharmonic, the OKMozart International Festival, the Canterbury Choral Society, BrightMusic Society of Oklahoma, Chamber Music in Oklahoma and other distinguished artist series and has evolved under her direction into an exciting weekly showcase of Oklahoma recitals and concerts.  In August of 2009 Kimberly and Performance Oklahoma’s six-part chamber music series from the 2009 OKMozart International Festival was profiled in the Sunday edition of the Daily Oklahoman by Fine Arts editor Rick Rogers.  Offering new and creative production for event and underwriting spots as well as fund drives is another priority for Kimberly and she has taken the opportunity to establish excellent working relationships with representatives of music and arts organizations throughout the state.  Recognized as a savvy and thoughtful interviewer she has hosted many guests to the KCSC studios including The Von Trapp Children, The Ten Tenors, The Kings Singers, Robert Weirich, Edgar Cruz and Paul Neubauer.  Off site she has met and interviewed a number of the world's leading musical artists including Steven Isserlis, Stephen Hough, Marc-André Hamelin, Sylvia Wang, Orion Weiss, CMS musicians from Lincoln Center and the co-gold medalists of the 2009 Van Cliburn International Competition Hao-chen Zhang and Nobuyuki Tsujii. 

Kimberly comes to the job well prepared with 25 years of work as a professional collaborative pianist and coach appearing with artists and performers around the country in concerts and master classes and on the National Public Radio series Performance Today. Performances in the Puget Sound region included appearances on The Seattle Flute Society Distinguished Artists Concerts and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra’s Musically Speaking series, work as an active Board member and performer with the Seattle Young Artists Music Festival and as a coach at the Seattle Conservatory and Pacific Lutheran University.   She has also appeared as a guest artist at the International Double-Reed Convention, The Clarinet Symposium, the International Clarinet Association Convention, the National Flute Association Convention and the International Horn Society Conference. Here in Oklahoma she has appeared as a guest artist on the Sutton Faculty Artist and Master Performer Series at OU, the Clarinet Symposium, the Faculty Concert Series at OSU and SNU, and Guest Artist Series at Quartz Mountain and UCO.  Kimberly holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University and pursued post-graduate private study with the distinguished English pianist Benjamin Kaplan in London.
